Show Big Strike Near Drum Mountain M. M. Steele Jr., accompanied by Verge Kelly of Deseret, with his car. made a trip to Indian Springs and Drum Mountain, taking over J. 11. Manderfield, Assistant Gen'l passenger agent of the Salt Lake Route, Senator Reams and Mr. Milne, of Salt Lake. The trip was made by the gentlemen with the idea of looking over the ground to see how the land laid with reference to running a railroad from some point on the Salt Lake Route to Drum Mountain and Indian Springs where, at the latter place the senator and Mr- Milne are interested in some very rich mining claims, one of which is the O. R. mine where some very sensational strikes have been made the last three weeks and where silver running from 100 to 1200 ounces has just been unearthed. un-earthed. In the Drum Mountain district dis-trict Mr. Kelly and associates are working property which is making a big showing in copper. They are taking out ore which goeS'from $80 to $120 in value. The Drum Mountion district while it has never been extensively exten-sively prospected, has always been considered one of the brightest mining localities in the state and has only awaited a strike or two like the above for transportation facilities to start moving and create an intense interest in that locality. Now that these valuable finds have become known, and with the prospects of a railroad into the country things in that locality are moving and there is already considerable stir there and as time goes on from what those who are familiar with conditions tell us, there seems to be a good chance for a great deal of activity ac-tivity there and a very bright possibility that the district will soon become one of Utah's big mining camps." There are immense coppor deposits in that district which run well up in the bronze ore land which will be of great value as soon as transportation facilities facili-ties reach them. There are a number of mines in Drum Mountain on which de-velopement de-velopement work will soon start. From the end of the Delta branch line the Salt Lake route can easily and cheapily extend tracks to the Drum Mountain country as it would be a water-grade water-grade all the way, with no expensive ex-pensive cut or fills to make. Indications point to a great deal of mining activity in this district in the near future. There is also some oil activity in the Snake Valley just beyond the Drum Mountain. There is an outfit now drilling in the valley and it is said that oil indications in-dications are very noticable there and that the operators have every confidence of striking oil. While about seventy-five miles out on the desert Mr. Steele's auto sprung a leak in the gas connectijns and lie had to leave it there. The party were taken out by way of St. John's by Mr. Kelly and Mr. Steele returned to Delta with him. |
