Show Sugar Factory for Delta for 191fr "The Southern Utah Sugar company, which plans to erect and operate a factory at Delta, filed' articles of ' incorporation Thursday with Secretary of State-David State-David Mattson. The capital zation of the concern was fixed., at $1,0(10,000. The officers and directors of the company are: 11-yrurn A. Silver, president; Archie C. Milner, vice president; Geo. D. Alder, treasurer. J. R. . Letcher, secretary, Frank .L. Copening of Delta, Albert Merrill, Mer-rill, Geo. A. Steiner and James P. Sprunt, with the foregoing-officers, foregoing-officers, constitute the directorate. director-ate. . : .The above company is the out growth of the activities of Messrs Mess-rs Sprunt, Smoot and Copening in the Delta country at which time they signed up the beet growers of this locality for 4000 acres of beets for the coming-year. coming-year. The company however, will erect a larger factory than figured on and will have the farmers sign up for another thousand acres if possible. Messers Sprunt and Lethcer, accompanied by A. P. Hansen, a civil engineer of Salt Lake and .James J. Burke, of the Burke Construction Co., of that city came to Delta last Monday to take up the preliminary work , relative to the construction of the factory. They ran various surveys over two different sites and to the railroad from which a spur will be run to which ever site the company finally determ-ins determ-ins on. One of these sites is up on the bench about a Tmie-rrarcn oi the depot and along the my in line of the railroad. There has been given fur the site here 134 acres. The other possible site is about four miles out on the Hashimoto spur of the Delta branch and contain Kill acres. Just which one of these sites will eventually he chosen is a matter yet to be determined. The gentlemen interested seem to be in favor of the location just north of Delta but owing to the fact that they have not yet been able to get matters pertain-, pertain-, ing to the water for washing the beets adjusted, and the fact that the time for acting is drawing near, this site may be abandoned for the one out on the Hashimoto spur where the land and water both are said to be ready at anytime any-time to be turned over to the company! Which ever one of these sites is selected the company proposes pro-poses to begin within a short time the construction of a spur to the factory site and imme diately on its completion so'that material can be moved in, they 'will start work on the cement foundations of the factory buildings. build-ings. Should the site west of town be chosen, actual construction work on the- factory will not begin so soon on account of there being more preliminary work attached thereto. The company lias contracted contract-ed with the Delta district farmers farm-ers for 4000 acres of beets annu?. ally for the next seven years. At the meeting held here Monday Mon-day night there were about 250 people present, all of whom were greatly interested in the securing secur-ing of the factory. During tne evening the plans of the company com-pany were gone over and the work to be done was outlined. Mr. Sprunt also stated that the factory wtuld be a 000 ton plant and would have a daily capacity of 900 tons of beets. He asked all who contemplated putting in beets and who had not signed up to do so that the other 1000 acres, (or live thousand in all) could be made up as soon as possible. ' Mr. Sprunt assured us that there was no question as to the factory being put in and that it was only a matter of determining on the location before the work would begin. And that it would be completed in ample time to take care of the 1916 crop ,pf beets. While the company favors the site near town on which to locate the factory they state that the water must be secured for them soon or the,y will be compelled to accept the site farther out. Should the site farther out be chosen this would in reality be a calamity as it would simply mean anotner small town on the tract with a few scattering stores, instead in-stead of a good central place of business where larger stores and more conveniences could be had. The gentlemen left Tuesday night for Salt Lake City where the matters will be taken up at their ollice in the Kearns Building Build-ing and the location determined upon.- Locate at Lucerne Messrs R. E. Beardsley and' Wm. Stuck, arrived in Delta last Friday morning from Orange, Cali., each with a car of stock and household goods and went out Saturday morning to their place near Lucerne over the Del-ta-Sugarville .branch. Mr. Beardsley has a 330-acre tract on which he will at once build a four-roomed residence, Their families will arrive as 90on as they have arranged for their comfort. com-fort. These gentlemen are well pleased with their buy, and from What we have seen of them they are the kind of men who will be a valuable addition to our country. coun-try. We extend to them, in behalf of the "Greater" Delta country a hearty welcome and wish them abundance of success. |
