The plane, a 7-passcnger 7-passcnger Beechcraft, landed at Delia airport shortly after 11 o'clock o'-clock in I lie morning and was welcomed wel-comed by the Mayor and members of the City Council. The Delta high school band was also present and gave a number of selections. After introductions .the people were given a close up view of the $70,000 ship, and then the plane left for Cedar City. Mayor and Mrs. Golden H. Black were invited to accompany the airline air-line officials, Mrs. Fred Tedesco, representing re-presenting tiie Salt Lake City council, coun-cil, and the phtogrnphers and reporters re-porters on the trip south and re-i re-i urn. The next stop was at Cedar City where they were served a dinner by the Cedar City chamber of commerce, com-merce, and after the dinner they left for St. George, the southern terminus of the line. The return trip was made over Zion and Cedar Breaks, and according ac-cording to Mayor Black, it was a beautiful sight to see the magnitude magni-tude of these two areas from the air. The plane returned to Delta a-bout a-bout 4 o'clock that afternoon, leaving leav-ing Mayor and Mrs. Black, and then going on to Salt Lake City. Regular flights by the plane were begun on Monday, with their schedule calling for a round trip each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Fri-day. The first passengers to land in Delta were Bob Wallace, Wendell Shurtliff and Lars Bishop, on schedule sche-dule Monday. Bob Wallace bought the first ticket the Challenger Airlines Air-lines sold. He figures Life magazine maga-zine is just right for the reading time he had on the trip. Time is a little too long. Del Shurtliff and Lars Bishop went up from Hinckley to Salt Lake by train to make the trip back by plane. They didn't have a magazine to read, but spent their time in taking in the sights, which loked good to Bishop, after two years in the Pacific. The first reservations made from Delta were for Wednesday for four. Wayne Pratt left for Salt Lake, and Misses Geneal Moody, Marilyn Snow and Calvin Headland went to St. George. |
