Show Eldula Dean Wixom Dies in Oak City Ensign Eldula Dean Wixom, born July IS, 1913 at Fillmore, Utah, the youngest of seven daughters of May Lambert and S. Don Wixom, died December 23, 1946, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Thelma Dutson at Oak City, Utah. Raised in Fillmore and received her elementary and high school education ed-ucation there. Was graduated from St. Mark's Hospital School of Nursing Nurs-ing in 1939 and later did post graduate grad-uate study at Baylor University, j Dallas, Texas, following which she acted as supervisor in The Dalles Hospital, The Dalles, Oregon, la 1941 she went to San Francisco and was nursing at the University of California Hospital at the outbreak of World War II. In August, 1943, she joined the Navy Nurse Corps. She and her sis-ler, sis-ler, Wilna, were the first girls from Millard County to join the armed forces. Eldula first did duty at the U. S. Naval Hospital, Treasure Island, Is-land, California. In January of 1943 she and her sister Wilna were assigned as-signed and had the privilege of going go-ing together to the New Hebrides Islands in the South Pacific and were among some of the first Navy nurses called to foreign duty. Eldula El-dula was at a Base Hospital there until January of 1944 when she was transferred to Wellington, New Zealand and it was there that she took sick. She was returned to the States soon after her arrival there and was hospitalized in the U. S. Naval Hospital, Corona, California, until October of this year when she , was brought to Oak City. ; She was active in the L. D. S. She was i also a 4-H Club Leader while living liv-ing in Fillmore. She is survived by the following ; sisters: Mrs. Lyla Terry, Beaver, . Utah; Mrs. Thelma Dutson and -Miss Wilna Wixom, Oak City, Utah; Mrs. Florice Sanford, Delta, Utah; Penlope Wixom, Murray, Utah; Mrs. : Blodna Knight, Idaho Falls, Idaho. 1 Also by Miss Annie Lambert, an 1 aunt, who has made her home with I the Wixom family for many years, ( and who is now living with Mrs. 1 Thelma Dutson, at Oak City. i Funeral services will be held in i the Fillmore Second Ward chapel, 1 Fillmore, Utah, on Friday, Decern- ber 27, at 2:00 p. m., with Bishop i Milton Melville conducting the ser- j vices. Internment will be in the f Fillmore City Cemetery under the direction of L. N. Nickle & Son's f Mortuary, Delta, Utah. |
