Show Majority of Offices Go, To Republicans, Both State And National, in Election Murdock and Robinson Concede Election in State Race; Granger and Wilson Outcome Still in Doubt Republicans showed an unthought of strength in the voting of Tuesday and carried into office a large majority of their candidates. In the state, Abe Murdock, Mur-dock, incumbent United States Senator, has conceded conced-ed the election to Arthur Watkins, Republican candidate, can-didate, and Robinson, incumbent Congressman, has conceded to Willam Dawson, Republican. The race between Granger, incumbent, and David Wilson Wil-son is still undecided. Locally the Republicans carried all of the offices in the county but three. Those won by Democratic candidates were. Robert E. Robinson (D) for two -year term commissioner, who defeated Harold Morris Mor-ris (R), incumbent; El wood Lambert (D), incumbent county clerk; and Milton Mellville, (D), who defeated defeat-ed incumbent Eldon A. Eliason for county attorney. Clif McShane, Republican candidate for state senate, sen-ate, lead over Joseph Manzione in Millard, and out of four precincts of eight in Beaver, he also lead there, so that unless this is upset, he will also be elected. The Republican victory comes as a surprise to most political observers, who felt that Utah would still be in the Democratic ranks, after a hard race,, , Republicans had hoped for a victory in one national, office, but they now have two "and possibly a third. The constitutional amendments carried by overwhelming over-whelming majorities in Millard county and also have seemed to carry in the state, but these are the final capitulation on the ballots, the final results will not be known for several days. |
