Show Delta Rabbits Take Third Place In State Tourney The Delta Rabbits came home from the state tourney with third place in the Class B Meet, two players getting all-state positions, three players getting honorable mention ,and all of the Delta fans mighty hoarse. Play started Wednesday in the class "B" meet with Delta coming up against Snow, which they won handily, but with Snow coming up from behind to end the game 37-35. 37-35. First quarter was Delta 8, Snow 7; half time Delta 20, Snow 16, third quarter Delta 35, Snow 26. The final quarter was fast with Snow making 9 points to Delta's 2. Thursday Delta met Hurricane in possibly one of the most thrilling thrill-ing games of the meet. Both teams were exceptionally evenly matched match-ed with quarter scores going Delta 13, Hurricane 10, second quarter, Delta 23, Hurricane 26, third quarter quar-ter Hurricane still held a 2 point lead 37 to 35. The final quarter saw the score see-sawing back and forth with each team a point a-head a-head at every basket tossed. Eight seconds before the final whistle Hurricane lean 1-13 ana seegmiller seegmil-ler from well out of the court sank a long one to give Delta a 1-point margin, 45-44. Friday night it was a different story for Delta with B.Y. High. The first half was almost even with the first quarter ending 7-7. The half ended with Delta 17 - BYH 15. The second half BYH got very hot and ran up to a 29-22 lead while Delta was equally oold, and held on to the end of the game with an eight-point margin 41-33. Saturday night Delta met last year's championship team of Monroe Mon-roe for the three quarters of the game it looked very dreary for the Delta team. Monroe lead 14-8 at the first quarter and 29-18 at half time. Early in the third period Delta lost Scott Davis and David Seegmiller Seeg-miller on fouls and Hansen and Winfield went in. Winfield got hot and was sinking them from any angle and about any time he had his hands on the ball. The score read at the end of the third period per-iod Monroe 40 - Delta 36. The final quarter was a mad scramble and fast action with the Rabbits finally taking the lead and nursing a two-point margin to end the game Delta 49, Monroe 47. The school and fans are well pleased with the excellent showing show-ing Delta made and are very proud of the fine, well - coached team that Delta sent to the Class B Meet. Merlin Christensen handled hand-led the team well and coached them into a fine position at the end of the tourney. The Deseret News picked Harold Snow on the first all-state team and Bud Fullmer on the third all-state all-state team. They also gave honorable honor-able mention to Scott Davis, Donald Don-ald Floyd and David Seegmiller. The Tribune gave Bud Fulmer an all-state position and placed Harold Snow, on the third all-state team, just reversing the order of the two in the two choices by Salt Lake newspapersThe Tribune gave Scott Davis honorable mention. |
