Show Award Bid To Oil Final Span 0fU.S.HVy6 Bids were opened March 11 on 33.5 miles of 6-inch gravel surfacing surfac-ing and road mix 2-inch bituminous bitumin-ous surfacing on U. S. Highway 6, west of Hinckley, project FLH 235(4) and 235(5), Hinckley-Skull Rock Pass. W. W. Clyde & Co. of Sp'ringville were the lowest of eight bidders with $315,000.00 considerably below be-low the engineer's estimate. Contractor Clyde has moved one large crusher on the job and will ject next week. Thirty trucks and 60 men will be working on the project. It is planned plan-ned to complete it early in August. This stretch of U. S. 6 now to be oiled is the last uncompleted portion por-tion of the transcontinental highway. high-way. Its completion is the realization realiza-tion of thirty years and more of hope and plans in this area, and ds cause for rejoicing here and for our neighbors in eastern Nevada. Travel time from here to Nevada and through to points in California will be reduced enough that considerable con-siderable upsurge in tourist trade is anticipated and preparations are being made to take oare of it. Another road construction job in west Millard county -is that of S-171, Nevada State Line-Garrison easterly 17 miles, which was awarded aw-arded to E. G. Johnson of Ogden, with $250,000 for the grading, sub-base sub-base and graveling. Contractor Johnston is moving in equipment to begin construction im mediately. |
