Show Urge Planting On Arbor Bay Governor Lee has proclaimed Monday, April 2, 1951 as Arbor Day wherein he urges all the people of the state to observe it by planting plant-ing trees, shrubs, flowers etc. and the beautificalion of their homes schools and communities. This is a very good lime of the year to plant all types oi' trees and shrubs. Delay in planting will increase the hazard of loss of young trees and shrubs. The better the preparation for these plantings the better the success suc-cess will be. Never let the roots of young planting stock become dry. As soon as you unpack them put them in a bucket of water and leave them there until you put them in the soil. If the soil in which you are planting plan-ting trees or shrubs is rocky and appears to be poor soil put rich fertile soil in with the tree to give it a good start. Tamp sail firmly around the root of young tree and shrubs. Keep soil moist. Very often a dual purpose tree can be planted in your back er front yard. An Apple or peach or pear or cheery will furnish shade as well as fruit and will add to the landscaping problem of your home. If you need help contact the County Agent. |
