Show Wounded I Marine ' i '' - f " I ! . , I I ' CPL. HAROLD H. SODERQUIST Cpl. Harold Helmer Soderquist, 22, USMCR, who was wounded in action in Korea March 1, is now recovering, according to word received re-ceived by relatives. A letter from Cpl. Soderquist received re-ceived March 17 states that while firing machines guns, Reds opened open-ed fire on them and one explosion explos-ion was too close. He was hit with shrapnel in both arms, legs, neck and cheek. He was hospitalized in Korea, and now has been removed to a hospital at Yokosuka, Japan. A former Delta high school student, stu-dent, he enlisted in the marine corps in 1945, and served four years He was in the reserve one year when called back to active duty last September. Cpl. Soderquist has been serving with the first marine division in Korea since Dec- 9. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Helmer Soderquist, former residents of Lyrmdyl and Leamington ,now live in Salt Lake City. His wife, Mrs. Jean Faurschou Soderquist, also lives there, at 253 S. 10th West. A letter from his mother, on March 27 says that the latest word from Cpl. Soderquist is that he is still in Japan in the hospital. They have not removed the shrapnel shrap-nel yet, and his condition is fair. And he was awarded the puple heart last week. i |
