Show Raiuiis Pinion F.agles 38 - 34 After Trailing Sensational shooting by John Whatcott and unexcelled back -board work by Harold Snow and Clarence Prestwich enabled Delta to snatch a 38-34 victory from the Millard Eagles Friday night at Delta. Del-ta. A capacity crowd saw the Rabbits Rab-bits overcome a 19-12 deficit in the third quarter' to vanquish the touted Eagles from Fillmore. The defensive play on Roger Op-lin, Op-lin, the leading scorer of Region Six, was a deciding factor in the victory. Olpin collected only 7 points po-ints on 2 baskets and 3 free throws to fall short of his 13 average. Jack Wade gave Millard an early ear-ly lead with drive in shot but Harold Har-old Snow tied it up with an underhand under-hand hook shot. Later in the period, the scoring burst wide open as Monan Lovell dumped in a long shot from beyond be-yond the foul circle. Lewis Monson immediately retaliated with a long shot. Monan Lovell again hit from the same spot as before to again give Delta the lead. Jack Wade scored from the side but Ted Dal-ton Dal-ton matched it with a long set shot. A foul shot bv Bud Fullmer gave Delta a slim 9-8 advantage at the conclusion of the first period. In the second quarter Millard surged into the lead which at half-time half-time lead 17-12 for the Eagles. Ted Dalton scored the only fielder for Delta in the second quarter. After the intermission, Roger Olpin Ol-pin mounted the count to 19-12 with a pivot shot. The Delta five suddenly came to life as Bud Fullmer Full-mer sank a lay-up John Whatcott poked in two fields from beyond the foul circle to narrow the lead. Two baskets and two foul shots by Harold Snow gave Delta a 4 point lead. With about six sec-ional sec-ional push shot from a spot 10 line that gave the ultimate victors a 29-24 advantage. A Millard rally ral-ly knotted the count at 32 all with 4 minutes left to play. John Whatcott What-cott drove through to score and aded a free throw to make the score 35-32. Harold Snow strengthened strength-ened the lead with a jump shot. Bud Fullmer added a foul pitch. Delta controlled the ball effectively effect-ively during the final 3 minutes. John Whatcott paced all the scor ers with 13 points, all of which came in the second half. Jack Wade led Millard with 10 points. Harold Snow sank 8 points in the second half for a total of 10 coun- ters.
