Show MILLARD COUNTY CHRONICLE Delta, Utah, Thurs., Dec. 14, 1950 f Rich Beauty in Wood Veneer -- M. ... .v.'. .:.v,-- ?:TO?TO!gB If 'jfJU : fXff it ti Handsomely-figure- d hardwood veneer wall panels blend harmoni-ously with table and chairs, also of hardwood veneer. The rich natural pattern of the wood grain in this paneling adds a luxurious touch. One of the simplest ways in which interior walls of a home can be modernized is to cover them with hardwood plywood paneling. The panels are easy to apply and the cost is moderate. The homemaker who wants to give a "new look" to his living room or den can obtain appealing warmth and beauty by using dur-able hardwood plywood panels, faced with rich veneer. If desired, the paneling can be applied to the ceiling as well. A wide range of hardwood face veneers gives the home decorator unlimited rein in selecting the tone of the completed room. The paneling can be chosen to blend with the furnishings, either in matching or contrasting shades and patterns, depending upon the individual taste. The manufacturers of high qual-ity furniture, television and radio cabinets use many varieties of hardwood veneers, all of which fit in harmoniously with suitably se-lected wall panels. The proper paneling is available regardless of whether your furniture is of wal-nut, oak, cherry, birch, mahogany or some other hardwood veneer. Hardwood plywood possesses other properties which make it a desirable product for this purpose. Because of the nature of its con struction layers of veneer with the grain of the wood at right angles and joined together by a strong adhesive it will neither expand nor contract. The approxi-mate equalization of strength along both the length and width of the panel makes it resistant to splitting. An advantage of using hard-wood plywood panels is that fre-quently very little preparation of the wall is necessary. Once in-stalled, the care and maintenance of paneled walls is negligible. This point is emphasized by the U. S. Department xf Commerce in a report which says: "Wherever hardwood plywood is installed, it introduces a new note of economy and practicabil-ity. Maintenance costs, whether in residential project or public place, are minimized. Surfaces not sub-ject to abrasion require nothing more than an occasional wiping to remove accumulated dust. Other surfaces need little more than a light waxing to restore their original brilliancy and beau-ty. The abrasion resistance of many hardwoods is in itself a guaranty against most of the mar-ring to which walls are prey. The construction of the hardwood panels protects them against cracking and splitting." Branding She?p A recently developed branding fluid for sheep can be removed from completely wool by scouring Cobalt in Rations Without cobalt in the ration, the appetite of bottle and sheep may be-come so r.nor that they will refuse feed to thv vuint of starvation. Closing Slimmer Rome Closing that summer home for the winter? IV sure to drain the plumbing pipes, including the traps under the fixtures. Traps may also be protected by diluting the water with kerosene. Tempering Tank Aids Water Heating Installation of a tempering tank between the water meter and the water heater will save fuel in heating the domestic water supply for the kitchen, laundry and bath-room, according to American Builder magazine. A tempering tank is merely a temporary stor-age tank in which the water is brought to room temperature be-fore entering the heating unit. The tempering tank should be placed under the ceiling at the warmest point in the basement, kitchen or utility room. It should not be insulated. t Resembles Leaning Tower A curious leaning pagoda in ( , Yangku (Taiyuan), Shansi Province, China, dating from the Sung Dynas-ty (960-126- A.D.) is an oriental counterpart of Italy's Leaning Tow-er of Pisa. Coccidiosis The parasitic organism that causes coccidiosis in chickens can survive in favorable soil for more than a year and a half. Thomas Jefferson Jefferson, third President of the Uniter! States and author of the "Declaration of Independence," died on Independence Day Juiv 4, 1826. Circus Elephants The elephants of a circus herd never lie down to sleep all at onf time. Apparently some instinct from former jungle life keeps o.ie or more standing on guard against the possibility of attack. Puffs in a Cigarette The average smoke gets about 17 puffs from a cigarette anr1 about :00 from a cigar. For Truck Croppers If truck crops suffered from dry weather this year, try to avoid this condition in 1951 by raiting a wi-nter cover crop this fall and there are plenty more like him who will return to home and hearthside with nothing to do until the 'fishing season opens next year. Well, I must dash now and get a little Christmas shopping done, at least go through the motions and then put it off for another day. Toots. Chatter Box Dear Suzy, Here it is a little more than a week until Christmas and all we have for a white Christmas is plen-ty o'f fog. Of course, even that will help if we can't do any better, and on the other hand, we don't want a white Christmas overdone as it was here a few years ago. Even the sheepmen out on the desert are dreaming of a white Christmas, because they say the range is so short of water that the woolies out there have been wean-ed from the stuff and stampede with fright when they see some water. And on the other hand, there are those who arent' particularly con- - to see if Fuzz really will get a crop of head covering growing there, and if he does Glen wants to be the first customer. If Fuzz raises anything besides his hat it will surprise me, and even if he raises his hat that will also surprise me. Comes Friday night and the geese can leave Mud Lake and go on about their business. It is lucky for them that they can fly be-cause they can't walk through the mud caused around the edges of the lake by the drool from hunters looking at them. It will also be a time when husband and wives can get and see more of each other. Beryl Callister says she hasn't seen Tony since the opening. The other night his kids got a glimpse of him and thought he was a stranger. Tony isn't an exceptional case cerned about a shortage of water, comes the holiday season And still on another hand (in case you have three hands) there are beverages that have a little edge on water, as for instance, milk and soda pop. One thing for sure, you sit about and think you have seen and have heard everything and then some-thing comes along that makes that idea fade like boys at chore time. Speaking of startling developments Fuzz, of all people, has gone farm-er on us. He up and bought a farm the other day for no good reason at all only that it is get-ting so difficult to find a place to pheasant hunt he figured he had better get something of his own. It will make pheasants come quite high these days, but every-thing is high and that won't be anything different. Possibly the most upset about the farm buying turn of events is Glen Crawford. He stopped by the other day and asked Fuzz what he was going to raise and Fuzz said "a new .head of hair." It is a good idea as both of them need it, and too, Glen is so bashful about his lack of hair that he re-fuses to go without a hat. Anita says she is awfully tired of look-ing at Glen retiring for bed clad in a long nightgown and Stetson, and hopes that Glen gets the for-mula. The crop hasn't come up on the farm as yet, but Glen is watching it closely and to date has burned 31 gallons of gasoline in his lan-tern checking the place at nights Pressure Canner Do not put a pressure canner un. der cold water to cool it. KEEP SILVER IN RACK Flat table silver will tarnish less if kept in a rack in a dining--; room drawer. As a further protec--: tive measure, the drawer should be brushed out frequently. NOISY FAUCET EASILY FIXED A faucet that pounds when it is opened easily can be repaired by replacing the washer with a new lone, or by tightening a loose screw or nut inside the faucet.
