Show Reflex Action at Movie Touches off Old Pistol NEW YORK. Reflex action touched off by the exciting climax of a movie thriller resulted here in the accidental shooting of Edward Ryan, 10 years old, by his playmate, play-mate, Martin DeAngelis, 9. The shot, from an antique revolver, revol-ver, echoed through the Superior Theatre, Third Avenue, just south of 31st Street, at 2:40 p.m. It halted the show. About 200 persons, mostly youngsters, were in the audience. The manager, John Hofeditz, hurried hur-ried to the children's section, and assured as-sured the wildly babbling youngsters that there was no danger. From the fourth row he took the wounded boy and his frightened companion and drove them in his automobile to Bellevue hospital. The show resumed. re-sumed. Edward was rushed to an operating opera-ting room. There was a gash on his left cheek and the lobe of his ear was singed. Seven stitches were taken ta-ken in the cheek and then radio patrolmen pa-trolmen took the injured boy to his home at 211 East 33rd. street. |
