Japan, the United Unit-ed States' great ally, has guaranteed safety to these transports and It Is for the honor of his country that Nara Nara is put on the job. It has become known to tho Secret Service that there is a leak somewhere some-where in official circles and this leak has been traced to the office of one Major Northfield, V. S. Quartermaster Quartermast-er of the Pacific Coast. The American Ameri-can Secret Service has declared .Ma jor Northfield to be above susplcon, but nevertheless, Nara Nara resolves to watch him, and for this purpose hires an office next to his where he seats himself up as a "Japanese Importer." Im-porter." The truth ot the matter Is that little Kitty Little, a stenographer In Northfleld's office, is the real "leak" through which Important news Is reaching tho enemy. She is a girl of German parentage who has a brother In tho German army. She Is working under tho direction of a so-called so-called Dr. Smith (Schmidt in Germany) Ger-many) who, under the cloak of being a physician, sees his agents as patients. pa-tients. It Is Dr. Smith who has procured tho position for Kitty In Northfleld's office, for he pretends to be a great friend of tho Major's. Ho It Is also who Invites Kitty and Miss Lorlng, Northfleld's private secretary, to a little dinner, during the course of which he so drugs Miss Lorlng'a coffee that sho loses consciousness and Is taken with a sort of amnesia. Kitty Is promoted to Miss Loring's posltjon where she has access to all of tho Imporaant documents. At about this stage In affairs, as Nara Nara does not know whom to suspect, but still believes Northfield himself to bo the traitor, tho latter falls madly In love with Kitty and declares It with truo soldier Ilka frankness and dispatch. This makes her work all the harder and Kitty attempts to resign from tho Service, Dr. Smith will not permit this, however, how-ever, and tells her that If sho turns traitor now Miss Lorlng's "Illness" will end disastrously. Dr. Smith obtains ob-tains tho date ot the next transport order by threatening the llfo ot Miss Lorlng. This ho telephones to Kitty when it happens that Northfield Is In ' Nara Nam's office and standing near tho microphone which penults him 1 to hear all that is said in his own ' offlco. He learns to his horror that Kitty, tho girl he loves, Is a spy, al- ' belt a reluctant and broken hearted one. Therefore, when tho transport order or-der does come through, ho gives Kit- ' ty a blank sheet in ononvelopo to mull If sho Is honest, or to glvo her confederates If she Is t!io spy ho now believes her to bo. Ntra Nara follows fol-lows her with it to Dr. Smith's houso and watches from a balcony until ho bees her deliver It. Thinking only of avenging his country's honor, Nara Nara springs upon Dr. Smith as soon as Kitty has left him in search of Miss Lorlng. From this point events move with a startling rapidity and tho rest or the "Secret Game" is carried on In a whirl of events. First tliero Is the death of Dr. Smith at Nara Nara's hands, then tho meeting ot Kitty and Nara Nara on th-- stairs ot tho houso. Tho Japanese still has tho weapon In his hands with which ho had killed tho traitor, and Is looking for Kitty, tho girl who had duped him. Meeting her, ho realizes his groat affection for her In spite of everything, but sacrifices himself for her, committing sulcldo rather than botray her to tho police or provo false to his high principles. prin-ciples.
