Show SECRETARY GREENE OF THE ROCKEFELLER FOUNDATION TESTIFIES Now York, Feb. 3. Jerome D. Greene, secretary of tho Rockefeller foundation and formerly a member of tho personal staff of John D. Rockefeller, spent two hours and a ha.f on tho witness Btand before tho federal commission on Industrial rotations ro-tations today, explaining tho working work-ing of tho foundation, his personal activities, and defending tho charter char-ter under which tho foundation fa doing business. Mr. Groeno admitted that tho charter char-ter was broad in scope and that under un-der It thero was nothing to prevent tho foundation from engaging In propaganda pro-paganda agulust trado unions or conducting a campaign against compensation com-pensation for workmen. Dut, ho asserted, as-serted, there was not the remotest chance that such things would ovor bo dono. Tho witness doclared thero wore no grounds on which to base a suggestion sug-gestion that tho charter which was granted by tho Now York loglslaturo might bo unconstitutional. Mr. Groeno Bald that since tho start of tho Itockofollor foundation about a year ago the foundation had dispensed In gifts $1,834,000 on Its own behalf and $3,116,000 on behalf of Mr. Itockefollor, Sr. All told it has expended about $1,000,000 for Dolglan relief.
