Show Snakes' Eyes Never Closed. Snakes may nlmost bo said to have glass eyes. Inasmuch as their eyes novor close. Thoy nro without lids, and oach Is covered with n transpar ont scale, much resembling glass. When tho reptllo sheds Its outer skin the oyo scales como off with tho rest of tho transparent envclopo out of which tho snnko slips. This glassy cyo scalo Is so tough that It effectually effec-tually protects tho truo eyo from the twigs, sharp grass and other obstructions obstruc-tions which the snake encounters In Its travels, yet it is transparent enough to allow tho most perfect vision. Thus, If the snake has not a glass eye, it may, at any rate, be said to wear glasses. |
