Show Smith-Held. There was a meeting of tho Farmers' Association held hero on Tuesday for the purpose of organizing organiz-ing more fully and to be in conjunction conjunc-tion with the Cache Valley Farmers' Association. The old organization was disbanded and a new one formed, with Geo. L. Farrell, 1st vice-president, Robt. 15. Thornly,2nd vicc-prcsl-ldent, James Mllllgan,, secretary and treasurer. These with Sylvester Law, Samuel Nelson, Moroni Price and Win, II. Harper will act as an executive execu-tive committee. There will be another meeting held here on Monday, Mon-day, tho 23rd, when two of theA. C. Instructors In-structors are expected to bo present and deliver addresses on the "Best Method of Reclaiming Alkali Land," "The Rest Potatoes to Plant for tho Market," and the "Rest Method of Feeding and Keeping Dairy Cows." On Monday March ICth, about noon an aged citizen of Smlthllcld named Lars Peterson was found drowned in Smlthfleld Creek. Ho was taken out by Joseph Watts, who Immediately sent for George Y. Smith Justice of tho peace. That gentleman was on the ground as quick as the buggy could take him, and no marshal or constable being on hand, the Justice deputized Mayor Samuel Nelson to summon three Jurors from the bystanders, by-standers, namely, Newton Woodruff, James Mllllgan and Willis Lemmon. They were duly empaneled and the following witnesses wcro examined: Joseph Watt, Thomas Story, Henry Smith, and Carl E. Peterson, son of the deceased. They rendered the following decision: An inquest having been held at Smlthfleld precinct, Cache County, on the ICth, day of March, 1003, before George Y. Smith, Justlco of the Peace In Smlthfleld Precinct In Cache County, upon the body of Lars Peterson, there lying dead, by the Jurors whoso names are hereto subscribed, tho said Jurors upon their oaths do say: Ho came to his death by falling In the Smlthfleld Creek and being bruised upon tho rock and strangled by water. The purpose rif him being on tho bank of the CrcekTo us Is unknown. In testimony whereof where-of the said Jurors have hereunto set their hands tho day and year aforesaid." Tho funeral took place on Thursday Thurs-day at noon, and was attended by a large number of his friends. |
