A Washington dispatch of Monday last contains tho following: Tho geological geo-logical survey now has under consideration consider-ation tho establishment of forest reserves re-serves in tho mountainous regions of tho stato of Utah. During tho past thrco years petitions havo been received re-ceived from citizens of Utah for tho establishment of small reserves which would protect their wator supply for Irrigation Ir-rigation nnd domestic uses. Those pro-' posed reserves aro as follows: The Lagoon, La-goon, Salt Lake, Spanish Fork, Tooele, Huntington, Mantl, Ferron. Gunnison, Sallna, Aquarius, Montlcollo, Sevier, Pangultch lako, Duck lnho and Caldor forest reserves. Pending nn examination which would flx tho boundaries of theso areas most dcslrablo for forest re-servo re-servo purposes nnd eliminate such nrens ns aro most suited for agriculture agricul-ture or grazing, tho sccrotary of tho In-torlor In-torlor nctcd upon theso petitions, and' wlthdrow from entry about 4,608,000 acres. A careful examination was made during tho season of 1902, and tho secretary has decided to establish a system of forest reserves in Utah. |
