The edifice was overthrown by a succession ot earthquakes, and only threo columns aro now standing; but tho fallen shafts that lie around tho temple are so littlo Injured that It Is believed that It will be possible to re-erect them and tho fallen cntablaturo without with-out much difficulty or expense, and without having recourse to new material. ma-terial. As soon as tho ground nround the temple has been cleared of tho litter of fragments that now encumber It, tho Greek government which has hitherto been lnaccesslblo and intends to begin excavations on tho spot, hopes to make valuahla discoveries.
