Show Behind the footlights. 1 "Hello Hill," a comedy that will appear ap-pear hcie Dec. 4, was at Salt Lake last week and ciltlcs give It a great send-oir. It Is fun fiom stait to finish and had eiovvdcd houses the entire week. "Thelnia" was greeted by a large house on Thursday evening and by a fair audience on Friday evening. As a play It Is fairly Interesting, and as a scenic product ion it Is above the average. aver-age. John A. Larkln as Sir Philip Krilngton plaed the devoted to "Thelnia" In a lather stagy manner, while I'Vd Matthews as Gcoigc Lor-i Lor-i liner, the careless young Kngllsiinan, came nearer filling the bill, although a slight lisp tends to dctiact from his ability- "Thelnia" wasn't bad and Guldinar, Sigurd and Lennox might have been woise, but tho real acting was done by Lady Wlnslelgh. In this character Heat i Ice Thorn portr.i)ed the devil f licit' Is hi woman in such a maimer as to win the favor of I he audience, aud-ience, although the reconciliation between be-tween hei and hei husband was about as tame as the climax at the end of the first act. The snovvstonn, the appearance of the valkyrle and the deafh of (iiililin.n were features, llrltta, with her "I l.ik )ou purty gout," tiiok the house b stoim. Speaking of lisps, wli) is It so man) poisons who lisp Insist on trying to be actois and thus thrust their In-1 llnnltlesupon the public. KiedMat-i thews In "Thehna" had but 1 he slightest slight-est lisp, )o! It was almost enough to spoil him as an acceptable cliaiacter. In Munay & Mack's combination last season, a little gli) that could neither dance noi slug and who had a lisp that was nauseating was put forward for-ward as the stai pi'i foi mei, and but a jear or so ago "The gill from MIs-soui MIs-soui 1" can led t vv o performers vv ho lisped lisp-ed so liadl) that It was ver) dltllcult to uudeistaiid them. "The Stovvavva)"at the opera house Tuesday evening wasn't so bad. Some who were there even said It was falrl) good. The plot is passably good In Its way; Mr. Rico as the stowaway Is fall-' ly good In his way; somo of the i c t characteis weio In tho way rather than a support to tho production. The lack in attendance may possibly be attributed to tho fact thut some of Logan's people have seen It before. |
