Show Nrnata Committee Vlalta Hnnall. A Hawaiian cablegram says the subcommittee sub-committee of tho senate committee on Pacific Islands and Porto Rico has had a very busy week. On the island of Hawaii they devoted two days to public pub-lic hearings at Hllo and one at Mountain Moun-tain View. The principal matters presented pre-sented to them were testimony regarding regard-ing the Hawaiian land laws; the public Improvements needed on the island, particularly harbor Improvements at Hllo, and light houses at various points on tlie coast; and the subject of compensation com-pensation to the ex-queen for tho loss of the crown lands. One day was devoted by the senators to a visit lo the volcano of Kllauea, The committee returned to Honolulu Sunday. Almost the whole of Monday was devoted to n consideration of the fire claims matter. Testimony was hoard as to the origin, progress and incidents of the bubonic plague epidemic epi-demic nnd the efforts made to end it. It is expected that the commission will complete Its work Sept. 30, and snll tho next day for San Francisco by the steamer Portt. |
