Show BUM SCHOOL OPERA MAKES GREAT HIT The Dingham high school is to be congratulated on presenting such a splendid opera as the ' "Yokohama Maid", which was staged In Canyon hall Tuesday evening before a large and appreciative audience. During the acts encore after encore was received, re-ceived, and several of the parts were most xcellently renderd. The object for which the play was presented was certainly commendable, too, vt: the Red Cross. Professor Albert j. Southwick as director, did some very tin work in coaching the var!es ports which appeared ap-peared on the program Mrs. Inez Todd King as stage director did her part in a manner which reflected credit on a professional. Miss Adine Brownle as awompanist is one of the best in the state. . (L. A. Southwick as baritone sang his part In a very -:cclIent fashion. Mis Nettle T. Batt sang the contralto and took the part of "An Eld-Hv I Nurse" in a unique manner. Roy (Gardner as 'iMayor of Kybopho" took a difficult part, and h!s singing was very satisfactory. Gordon Reese as tenor made quite a hit in the part of secretary. lxla Royce sang the soprano so-prano part as the Japanese heiress in splendid fashion. Thelma Farnsworth as "Her Companion" took her part well and . Dr. Hugh Ryan as the bass, taking tak-ing the part of the "policeman", was very good. Principal L. W. Nielsen sang the tenor and mlmlced the Chinese Chi-nese laundryman In excellent fashion. A chorus of 25 Japanese men and maidens were well drilled and coached and aided very materially in making the opera the remarkable success which it was. . (Wednesday evening they played at the Jordan high school and were well received. The manager of the opera house at 'Eureka has made the company com-pany an offer to come there and present pres-ent this opera.' It is a!o understood that Provo may make a bid for the presentation of this opera in that city. |
