Show BODY OF COLONEL ASTOR CON8IGNED TO TOMB Former Wife Sends Wreath, But Doe Not Attend the Funeral Ceremonies. New York, May 4. The body of Colonel John .Jacob Astor was laid at rest today with simple ceremonies in the Astor vault In Trinity cemetery on Washington Heights. It wns brought here on a special train from Rhine-cliff, Rhine-cliff, on the Hudson, where funeral services were held at noon In tho little lit-tle rough stono Episcopal church ot tho Messiah, of which Colonel Astor wim for sixteen years a warden. Thei- services, also of the simplest lilril, vcre conducted by tho Uov. Ernest Saunders, pastor of tho church and the Rev. William T. Manning, rector rec-tor of Trinity church here, and were attended by relatives and friends of Colonel Astor, residents of RhineclUf, together with employees of Colonel Astor nt Rhlnccllff nnd at Newport, about one hundred In all. All tho church bells in tho pretty Hudson vlllago tolled as the funeral cortege took Its way from the Astor mansion to tho little church, whose altar was banked with many floral offerings, Including, It was said, a wreath of roses from the Prince of Wales. Tho coffin of tho dead millionaire mil-lionaire was Itself completely covered with n pnll of orchids. In tho car riage were Vincent Astor. nnd his 8ls- I ter, Muriel, Colonel Astor's children.
