Harvey, one ot tho colonists, by tho brother ot ono of tho bnndlts. Harvey, was at work In his field when ho was approached and shot and killed by tho Mexican in tho presence ot his threo small sons. The murderer mur-derer escaped. Thero Is much excitement among tho colonists on nccount of tho affair. Whllo tho entire country Is under tho domination of rebels, they announre tholr Intention of remaining to protect pro-tect their property by forco of arms If necessary. Telegrams havo been Bent Senator Smoot of Utah and Senator Fall ot Now Mexico, appraising them of tho situation Penrose and Glbbi Act. Immediate action was tnken by tho Mormon officials In Salt Lake when tho murder Dt Hnrvey was called their attention. President Charles W. Penrose and Secretary Georgo F. GIbbs of tho Mormon church wero notified through press dlspatcnes. They Immediately sent telegrams to El Paso and to Mexico, requesting full details of conditions In tho colonies, col-onies, nnd wired to Senntor Rood Smoot, urging that some action be taken If conditions wero found to wnrrnnt it The church leadeis said they did not know of any colonist of tho name given In the press dls-patches. |
