Show H THE WOMAN'S CLUB. H It Is good to know that the Agricultural M College Woman's club Is giving considerable H thought to "civic Inprovemcnt." Men not In- H frequently think and talk about what might M be 'done to Improve the appearance of a city, 1 but detinlte action seldom comes until women M get Interested. Women have an eye for beauty H and the artistic, and a penchant for cleaning H and rearranging, and once aroused to the neccs- M slty lor a change usually accomplish the de- M sired results. The Woman's club stirred to ac- M tlon on behalf of Logan city ought to accom- M pllsh some good, and we believe it will. 1 For Instance, there should be respectable B looking, properly labeled garbage cans on the BH principal street corners until such a tlmo as BH careless and thoughtless people have learned BH that the sidewalks and gutters are not the BH proper dumping ground for the tilth from BH stores, the peel of bananas and other fruit, the BBJ wrappings from parcels, and the gre ut quantity BB of other junk that tlnds Its way there. Per- BB haps tho Woman's club will by hook or crook BBJ secure these needed cans and see that tho law BB is enforced. BB No one thing would add more tollic beauty BB of this city than the planting of lawns at the BB side of tho street walks. Perhaps the Woman's BB club will, by holding frequent meetings In tho BB wards, arouse tho people to ihU idea, and then BB encourage tho ofllccrs to arrust the men and BB boys who walk on and ride their horses and BB bicycles on these lawns. BB Lattice work, vines, or trees, cutting from BB view the barns, corrals, outhouses, and badly BB" littered backyards, would add 1,000 per cent to BBJ the beauty of Logan. Perhaps the Woman's BB club will induce the people to get busy along BB this BBJ Paint, and even whitewash, used occasion- BB ally helps cover up much unslghtllness. Can BB tho Woman's club Induce the people to see the BH BB It would be a wondrous work if the city BBj fathers could bo induced to mow down the BBJ weeds at the sides of the streets at least two or BB three times during the summer, or induce the BB property-owner to keep clean that portion of BB the street and sidewalk In front of his home. BB Tho club mighty accomplish this. BB The Woman's club might, In conjunction BB with the schools, take up the matter of Indue- BB ing the children to plant (lowers and shrubs at BB home. This In Itself would be a great work. BB If itho Woman's club desires to get even BB more ambitious, It, might take up the matter BB of parking the streets, converting the canals of BB the city Into beautiful waterways, having the BB three rows of unsightly poles removed from the BB streets, missing sidewalk shade trees planted, BB all school grounds parked, vacant lots kept free BB from weeds and rubbish, tho billboards re- BB moved, and start u school to educate the people BB In civic pride. BB Tho Woman's club has great opportunity BB before It. It can work early and late and very BB strenuously for a number of years and still rind H plenty to do in Logan. It can hardly hopo to BB accomplish great reforms, or many of thosmal- BB Icr ones, in a tear's time. If It should accom- BB pllsh cither of those mentioned In two years' BB effort. It would be well worth while and hero's BB liupiug. One thing must be remembered gen- BB cral discussion of what might bo done never BB accomplished much. The one who waits to ac- BB compllsh a great thing, and neglects tho little BB things at hand never gets anywhere; nor does BB tho person who is consumed with the deslro to BB' do everything The fellow who gets there Is BB' the one who quickly decides to do something PP' and then gets at It. Tho A. C. Woman's club BP is composed of very capable women, so that BB' they can do much If they will will they get BH at |
