Show I KEEP 'EM AT HOME. fl A Salt Lake paper suggests that Senators H Smoot and Sutherland, Congressman Howell pfl and tluec or four others of "the Smoot push' pfl will be sent as Utah's delegates to the rcpub- IB llcan national convention. The three or four pflj others would probably bo "Fussy Jimmy" An- pfl derson, Colonel Loose, Wm. II. Spry, Postmas- fll ter Thomas, and do Guvnah,' with II. Uullen Bfl Jr. and ex-Mayor Robinson, of Cache, as second pi choice possibilities. pi With Fussy Jimmy relegated to the rcar fll and the totem pole now wearing the gull gu-ll bernatorlal toga left out, the gentlemen named fll would make a delegation of which the state pflj need not feel ashamed, but will somebody Bfl please rise and explain why most of these gen-fll gen-fll tlcmcn should not bo content to share with their lowly brethren at least that portion of fll the honors which are an expenses rather than a fll remuneration? Why should our senators and Bfl congressman desire or have further honors B thrust upon them'? And why should Mr. Spry bo crowned again? Is not his handsome olllclal Bfl position at the hands of the lepublicans of Utahsulllolent for the present? And the gov-pi gov-pi ernor unless the national convention promises Bfl to bo short of orators, why should he be sent? fll And Fussy but our words fall us here; Colonel Bfl Loose has never had more than his share: K. Bfl W. Robinson could not be betteied and men Bfl less worthy than Oullen mighty bu named but Bfl why tho others? Bfl Not because It's Smoot or hh "push," bub Bfl bf cause It Is only fair that the honors should B be passed around a little, the senators, con-fll con-fll grcssman and tho great portion or the gentle-Bl gentle-Bl men named above should have reserved seats H. within the boundaries of Utah during theses- slon of the republican national convention. I Thereshould be a broadening out there MUST fl be a broadening out If republicanism is tore-IB tore-IB tain Its ascendency In Utah. In the dlstrlbu-Bm dlstrlbu-Bm tion of minor favors, at least, tho faction In BE1 control can ulways well afford to look beyond its little circle and breed some good feeling by B recognizing men of genuine worth who stand Bfl friendly to the republican cause as a whole Bfl rather than the success of a particular crowd B within a party.' In this connection Tiik Rk-B Rk-B vuiii.icAN suggests a list of names from which Bfl a splendid delegation to the national conven-P' conven-P' tion might be selected: Fish burn and Hansen Bfl of l!ox Elder; J udge Rolapp, and Angus Wright Bfl of Ogden; W. S. McCornlck, George T. Odell, B George Austin, Judge Morse and A. C. Nelson, Bfl of Salt Lake; Colonel Loose, John Y. Smith B and Kggcrtsen of Utah; Wesley K. Walton of Bfl Rich; John Secley or Sevier; Wm. Long Jr. of Bfl Marysville; David Cannon of St. George: Lor-IB Lor-IB emo Hansen, C. '.. Harris and Dr. George Bfl Thomas ot Cache. Among this class of men Bfl there are many others who might well be hoo-Bfl hoo-Bfl ored, but of course all tho good men cannot be Bfl named here. It is to be hoped that In the nam-Bfl nam-Bfl ing of delegates to the national convention fac-B fac-B tlonallm and cllqucry will subjugate Itself just B for once. |
