Show Pres. Smith In the City Meets B.Y.C. Trustees. A Demonstration. i President Smith and others of the board ot trustees met yesterday to consider matters pertaining to the welfare of tho college. At 0:40 a. m. thestuncnts formed two lines, which extended from the college to President Llnford's residence, to welcome the guests. All went to the assembly room and filled it till there was hardly standing room. Presidents Smith and R. W. Young addressed the students President Smith bore a strong testimony testi-mony to the divinity of this gospel and related many Incidents connected with tho early day of the church. He told that tho Father and Son appeared ap-peared to Joseph Smith as men with flesh and bono as wo have and as the Savior had when he appeared to his disciples, and ate broiled fish and honey. The Angel Moroni also appeared ap-peared as a resurrected being. In closing, President Smith said: "I learned to love this gospel as taught me by my father and later moro fully by my mother. If I do not seo some of you again remember what I say, that I knew the Prophet Joseph Smith as a boy knows a man and I knew him to be a man of God. I know Brlgham Young when I was a boy and I labored with him later wtien I became a man. 1 labored with John Taylor and the other leaders of the church, and I knew them all to be inspired men of God." President R. W. Young spoke of his seven years acting as a member of the board ot trustees and also spoke of the prevalent Idea that to belong to a creed means to become "hidebound." It we have a creed which expresses truth, that truth will make us free. B. Y. C. The most unique occasion tho college; col-lege; has known tor some tlmo was a banquet given last Saturday evening in the Mechanto Arts building by tho "Prlscllla" girls. The details of tho event cannot be learned, but we arc informed by those present that It was a novel affair. This event was followed fol-lowed by the Usona society girls, who gave a party In the college dining room Tuesday evening. ( The many guests present filled the room Xo its utmost. The forepart of the evening was occupied by "progressive" games, after which light refreshments were served, followed by an Interesting program of songs, etc. Those present at Miss Nclke's recital re-cital Wednesday evening enjoyed It very much. It Is too bad that so few availed themselves of tho opportunity of hearing her. The second half ot the school year began Monday morning with a much larger attendance than ever before. Many new classes were organized to meet the demands of the students. Robert Mordock visited school Tuesday Tues-day and addressed tho students. Ho told many Interesslng experiences and bore an humblo but strong testimony to the truthfulness of the gospel. On Thursday', Instructor Nelson game n chapel talk on "Preparation." |
