Show SAMUEL RITER DROPS DEAD Prominent Citizen of Logan Succumbs to Heart Disease While at Riter Bros. Drug Store, Friday. Logan city was Inexpressibly shocked shock-ed yestesday (Friday) noon at the sudden sud-den death of Samuel W. Riter, pioneer pion-eer and prominent citizen His death occurred while he was at Riter Bros. Drug Store and was the result of heart trouble,' with which" lie had been more or less troubled. About eleven o'clock Mr. Riter left his home In the Third Ward for the drug store, where he had business to attend to with his brother, B. F. Riter. Ri-ter. Upon reaching thestore some or the employes noticed that he --was staggering slightly and he was conducted con-ducted to a chair, when he wos overtaken over-taken with a fainting spell. Medical attention was called and heart trouble trou-ble was found to be the trouble. The afflicted man was placed on a cot and he gradually sank until ho expired, about ono hour after the attack. Ills wife had been summoned immediately and was by his side when he died, nc was conscious to the last and his dying request was that good care, be taken of Ills children. Mr. Riter leaves a wife and Ave sons, who aro well provided for In a financial way. nc also leaves three brothers and one sister W. W. Riter of Salt Lake city, John D. Riter of Butte Montana, It F. Riter ot Logan, and Ann Elizabeth, wire ot Semour B Young of Salt Lake city. The deceased was aged 72 years, was born In Chester county, Pennsylvania, and was one of the early pioneers, coming to Utah with his parents, Levi 'E. and Rebecca Rlier, in 1847. Samuel Sam-uel Riter was one of Logan's foremost citizens, and had a wide circle ot friends who held him In highest esteem, for he was a man of sterling qualities honest and upright In all his transactions He was a member of tho firm of Riter Bro3. and was a director of tho Thatcher Bros. Rank. He had a strong mind and will and might havo been honored in public ways but was retired and cared not for glories. Mr. Riter was a substantial and worthy citizen.. The whole community Is In grief over his sudden death and much sympathy sym-pathy is extended to the bereft family. At this time the date ot the funeral Is not known. Just before dying Mr. Riter made a request that Incase he died he would llko for his bo'dy to be kept at least one week. |
