Show COMMISSIONER SKINS NEWTON Says Town's Poll Tax Ought to Confiscated. Has Worst Road and Streets in County. Commissioner Godfrey, into whose hands road building in the north district is now placed, is after Newton red-eyed. He says that tho Newton streets and county coun-ty road through the town are in the worst condition of any in the various to'wns of the county. Commissioner Godfrey says he has urged upon the town officials the necessity of making proper improvements, but they have given the matter no atten tion. He proposes now, if it is legal, that 'the county shall take care of the county road through Newton and manage in some way to get hold of a portion of Newton's New-ton's poll tax. He says that if Newton can not or will not use its poll tax to advantage, the commissioners com-missioners can. Commissioner Godfrey even goes so far as to advocates ad-vocates taking Newton's incor poration away from her in caso the town officials continue to neglect ne-glect the splendid opportunities for road improvement that is theirs. |
