Show M i TRIBUNE UNMASKS ITSELF. H For days prior to a previous edition H I of Tiik Hki'UIiliuan, that Salt Lake H i publication which sees a hlcrarch bo- H lilnd every stump had the whole bunch H opposing "education and ambition." H And of course that exponent of all tho H good there Is In Utah was Indignant, H Indignant beyond measure but not H beyond words. That publication not H j Infrequently gets beyond reason and H' beyond truth, but never docs It run H out of words, and In its indignation In H Ij j this instance several columns of that H I extremely valuable editorial space was H I ; devoted to a castration of the hi- H I urarchal disposition to keep the boys H J and twirls of Utah in Ignorance and do- H j void of ambition. H i About this time, Tiik Rkpuiimcan H cited In refutation of Tho Tribuno's H position the fact that In tho State, H ' i and Cache county especially, an extra- H ordinary proportion of the taxes are H spent for educational purposes. The H ' Tribune of Tliursday takes up this H citation of Tiik Rki'Uiilican and by a H ; system of logic probably peculiar to men who have been all things politic- H ally and scvcial things religiously at- H tempts to prove by that squib our be- B lief that the hierarchy is in control in H Utah. The Tribune Insists that Tiik H' Uki'Uiilican certainly would not, H I could not, liavo ottered tho use of the H taxes as a defense of the hierarchy if B In truth we do not accept It is a fact H that tho hierarchy Is in control of tho pcoplo and tho taxes. It ridicules H ' ttiU paper's disputation of Tho Trl- 1 bunc's position and then cites proof of H' hierarchal control In Utah. H For tho sake of argument we will H . assume that The Tribune has proved H i its case conclusively the hlcrarch is H ( In control In Utah. Hut when it docs H ( i this, does not The Tribune dlsprovo H i its other assertion that tho hlcrarch H Is against education? If the hierarchy H l is in complete control, as the Trlbuno H , has proved to Its satisfaction, and at H the. same time an extraordinary pro- H-'! portion of the taxes Is spent for educa- H ( tlon, docs It not prove conclusively H ' that the hierarchy is in favoi: of H'i education for the people? Does not H Tho Tribune prove that It's own posi H , tlon Is false and untenable? Has not H I The Trlbuno put itself In a decidedly H Then again, if It is not the hi- H erarciiy tliat Is spending the 'urge H amounts of money for education In M Utah If In truth tho hlcrarch Is agaln9t education In this state then tho large sums spent for education Is proof positive that the hierarchy U NOT IN CONTROL In Utah. Would Yhc hierarchy In control and not In favor of a proposition spent great sums of money to further that proposition? pro-position? And If grcatsums of money were spent for a proposition against tho advice and will of the hierarchy, can It be said that that hierarchy Is In control? Assuredly not. The Tribune picked up Tins Rk-I'UIiliuan'b Rk-I'UIiliuan'b squib and sought to place this paper In a false position by proving prov-ing our belief In tiie righteousness or Its own cantankerous position In reference re-ference to everything Mormon. Instead In-stead of accomplishing this, It but proves the falsity of Its own position In reference to tho hierarchal control of Utah and the hierarchal disposition toward education. Uy Its own system logic It completely disproves Its whole position on the Mormon question. It proves beyond the shadow of it doubt that it Is Illogical, that It grasps at straws to balstcr Its untenable positions, posi-tions, and makes mountains out of mole hills. The Salt Lake Tribune Is tho one paper in this state so viciously anti-Mormon, anti-Mormon, so eternally and everlastingly everlasting-ly warped that it Is Impossible for It to present any situation In an unprejudiced unpre-judiced way, and Its management and editorial stair Is so filled with bitterness bitter-ness and gall that even that paper's news columns aro basely prostituted to serve their cause. Tho Trlbuno may onco have been an honorable lighter for a cause It believed righteous, right-eous, but today It is but tho mouthpiece mouth-piece of dlscrcdltcQ demagogues who, under tho pretense of lighting Tor principle, aio seeking power only to further their own selfish designs. The plutocratic vanity and insane ambition ambi-tion of Its owner, and tho personal hatred of tho fallen demigod now the Tribune's editor make of the Salt publication all that Is unicllablc, all that Is vicious, all that is hurtful to the State of Utah. The record of the men who now direct the policy of the Tribune and dictate and write its editorials is such that the very people peo-ple wiiose cause it now so thoroughly represents and misrepresents at the same time may expect to be sold out at any time tho prlco offered Is great enough. Tho Trlbuno now lights Smoot and Joseph F. Smith. Why? From 'disappointed hopes In one Instance, In-stance, personal hatred In another, and again In the hopo that such advantage ad-vantage will eventually becomo theirs that they can dictate for the cause and people they represent? Not on your life! For tho owner of the Tribune and tho henchmen ho hires. Tiik Rki'Uulican disavows any claim of being a prophet, seer or revc-lator, revc-lator, but we do venture the assertion that tho management of Tho Trlbuno Is now laboring under the Impression that It has about reached that place where It can play a trump card, get what its management desires, and lcavo In the lurch tho principle and tho people for which It pretends to light. Recent developments In tho Smoot case, fiom Inside source, arc of such a nature that It may well be believed be-lieved that the Tribune would betray Its soul to the devil if a temporary advantage ad-vantage longed for could be gained. |
