Show LEWISTON AND VICINITY LEWISTON, May, 17 Justa's tho land that has been so wet all spring was getting dry enough to work and the people were hastening to get the remainder of their crops In, this part of tho valley received another good soaking. It certainly has been a wet spring here. Tho grain and beets that have been planted during the short dry sdcIIs have come up well, and alfalfa al-falfa and other vegetation seem to be fairly leaping out of the ground. All that Is needed now Is more warm growing weather. Some of the earliest earli-est beets arc already been thinned and judging from present conditions and the number of acres which will be planted, Lcwlston will produce a great many beets this season There will be work for a great many men and boys who may be unemployed In other communities. General Items. A number of our boys and girls aro down at Logan taking the examination examina-tion which Is being held there. It Is propablo that Lewlston will have something like fifteen graduates from the eighth grade ths spring. This shows that tho pupils have been interested inter-ested and that the right kind of work has been done during the past winter. There is talk of somo of our people moving away soon. W. A. Howraan has bought property at Twin Falls, and it is rumored that it is tho intention inten-tion of T. S. Karrcn and George E. Wheeler to move Into tho Snake River cpnntry. There will be a dance In the opera house to-morrow night In honor of Hyrum Dopp, who will leave in a few days for Germany where ho has been called on a mission, The Hyde Park band will furnish the music. The Lewlston State bank is keeping abreast in the line of Improvement. At the present the fence at tho rear of tho bank building Is being painted and Mr.HIIxt, of Logan.ls putting gold letters on tho windows. Hay ball & Co. are stocking up their lumber yard. They havo several teams hauling from tho cars for tho past few days. Anything common to lumber yards can bo bought there now. Riley Lewis, who IK'S uitii looking up a place for tomo time, nus made an offer for the Karren property. If his offer is accepted he will settle again In Lewlston. Parley F. Smith and wife havo returned re-turned to Lcwlston from Franklin where Mr. Smith lias been teaching school the last two winters. MarkTaggart has recently completed complet-ed a neat picket fence for postmaster Jacobson and at tho prescnttlmolic Is having it painted. Tho Clarkston boys will play ball here next Saturday with the Lewis-ton Lewis-ton team. Mrs. Bernice Marble is home visiting visit-ing her mother for a few days. , |
