Utah The first Respiratory Disease Dis-ease Self-Care Classes in Southern Utah were conducted at the Valley View Medical Center on Monday March 12. The Christmas Seal sponsored sponsor-ed classes were established in Cedar City to help people with chronic lung disease learn how to breathe easier, increase the physical activity and prevent attacks of acute respiratory failure. Mrs. McKay Cloward, Iron County 'Representative of the Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association, said the classes were successful. She explained that ten hours of instruction were given in five sessions. A new class will begin be-gin the second Monday of each month. "Each class is limited to six patients and their spouse. A referral from a physician is required," Mrs. Cloward said. The Christmas Seal Self-Care Self-Care Classes were ptoneered dn Salt Lake City by the Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association, the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain Thoracic Society and the 'LDS Hospital. They have been operating for four years. Mrs. Cloward said that the sponsors were developing the classes in several rural areas in conjunction with .the establishment estab-lishment of rural diagnostic and treatment facilities for respiratory disease. Mrs. Delia Garlield and Mrs. Lila Whipple of Cedar City, are the teachers of the breathing improvement classes. clas-ses.
