Show Consumerism subject at BPW Club , Helen Thackery, staff member mem-ber at Utah State University Extension Service with headquarters head-quarters in Salt Lake City was the guest speaker at the meeting meet-ing of the Cedar City Business and Professional Women's Club held Wednesday, March 14 at the Town and Country Restaurant. Mrs. Thackery described the 19G0's as the decade of the Consumer Movem e n t. She pointed out to BPW Club members mem-bers that the Consumer Bill of Rights, no fault insurance, and ! more control over materials of high flamability, were.a-mong were.a-mong the many evidences of the consumer movement and efforts of consumer education. Mrs. Thackery also discussed Trace Minerals which are necessary nec-essary for good diet The guest speaker pointed out to her Cedar City audience that In Utah, the Consumer Sales Practice Act, Is administered admini-stered by the State Trade Commission Com-mission and is charged with relation of advertising, licens-ing licens-ing and labeling. Traveling companion of Mrs. Thackery, Mrs. Andersen of Salt Lake City, was a special guest of the dub. The special program was under the direction of Elizabeth Eliza-beth Dewsnip, chairman of the club's Consumer Finance Committee. Com-mittee. Special entertainment was provided by Miss Francis Cool and Steve Roth of South-em South-em Utah State College. They sang two songs, "Peaceful, Easy Felling," and "Until It Is Time for You to Go." Mr. Roth accompanied them on his guitar. Candace Ewing, club member, mem-ber, was also recognized by club president Pauline Nelson, as the recipient of an award given to her !by the Associated Women Students at SUSC. The award was recently presented at a special awards assembly at which other women and men students werfi honored. Although it was snowing outside, lovely daffodilh on the tables brought spring to the meeting. |
