Show Outlook for water excellant' in So. Utah Water outlook for Utah, and particularly houthern Utah is excellest this year, according to a report issued this week. Snow cover is 170 to better than 350 percent of the March 1 average, the report indicat-. indicat-. ed. The report is jointly cam-piled cam-piled by the Soil Conservation Service, U. S. Forest Service and the Division of Water Rights of the Utah State iDe-partment iDe-partment of Natural Resources. Resour-ces. Long Flat, above Newcastle Reservoir, Ed Ward Flat and Yankee Reservoir snow course established new March 1 records re-cords for water content this year. The report pointed out that low and medium elevations eleva-tions have a much heavier than usual snow pack. That in part accounts for the records re-cords established on the above mentioned courses. Precipitation at mountain stations on the Virgin and Coal Creek was above one and a half times average for February. Feb-ruary. The upper Escalante had slightly less than average. aver-age. Enterprise-INew Harmony area had very heavy participation partici-pation at higher elevations. Soil moisture is above average as well. Reservoir storage in Lake Powell is now 49 percent of useable capacity and about seven percent Ibelow last March 1. Streamflow forecasts range from 184 percent on the Virgin asd Coal Creek to 242 percent on the April -June average on the Santa Clara River. Much heavier than usual run-off is expected into Enterprise Enter-prise Reservoir. Very heavy medium to low elevation snow is expected to produce higher than peak flows in the entire southwestern area of the state. |
