Show March 3, World Day of Prayer Literally millions of women on every continent will be thinking about the high incidence of loneliness and alienation in modern life on the first Friday in March. They will seek "Community Spirit in Modern Living" as a way to serve God's will for fullness of life for all people. March 3 is World Day of Prayer, and it will be celebrated in 140 countries and 33 islands on that day by Christian women united in study, liturgy and prayer. Each year the International In-ternational Committee for the World Day of Prayer chooses one nation to write the service. This year the women of Canada explore the conflicts, tensions and compromises of living in community under the theme "Community Spirit hi Modern Living". The Canadian women show their conce:n for the issue of diversity within community in the message they send with the service: "Our life in Canada is becoming fuller and richer as people of many cultures, many races, many creeds, and many tongues have come to make their home here. As Canadians, we call our sisters and brothers around the world to share their lives with us and with one another so that all of humanity may grow into unity and wholeness through fellowship with one another." In the United States, World Day of Prayer is sponsored by Church Women United. In Cedar City this year's service will be held at the Community Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. on March 3. All are welcome and urged to come. The spiritual and practical influence of World Day of Prayer is powerful, good and lasting, and that's why the women who plan this event call it a "celebration." |
