Show fA 1 Letters Kfbbk To Thy ' lm Editor Editor: How many unfortunate accidents as happened yesterday, June 11, 1979, will it take before the irrigation companies realize how dangerous the irrigation ditches are when they are left open or without fences. As far as I know, in the Salt Lake area the ditches either have to be fenced or placed underground when passing near housing developments as per ordinances. This is also true in New Mexico from where we came. My wife and I have been "fighting" with both of the irrigation companies for two years to get the two northbound nor-thbound irrigation ditches either covered or fenced but all we get in return is "There is no money available for the work, 'Or', you can do the work yourself and if everything proves satisfactory after five (5) years of use then we'll take over and maintain the ditches, but until the five years are up it will be your responsibility respon-sibility to keep them cleaned out." Our sympathy goes out to the Taylor family in their time of loss and we hope something will be done before anymore needless and un-fortunte un-fortunte accidents occur. Sincerely, Mr. 8r Mrs. James Mittenzwei |
