Show 'Cedar City Goes After 4 : Lane System Approaches Two committees, appointed by Mayor Loren Whotten, were approved by the Cedar City Council in its recent meeting for the purpose of contacting property owners adjacent to U. S. Highway 91 or possible improvements. The committees were formed form-ed when the city was approached ap-proached by the Utah State Department of Highways with a proposition to construct a four-lane highway from Interchange In-terchange to Interchange through Cedar City. The proposal, however, was made on the basis of cooperation coopera-tion from the property owners to the extent that they would insali curb and gutter the entire en-tire length of the proposed project. With that in mind, the city formed two committees with Forrest Hunter to serve as general chairman of the entire en-tire project. The committees were formed for each end of the project from the city limits to the respective interchanges on Interstate Highway 15. I Committee Named Members of the committee ' for the north approach to the city includes Frank Milne, Tom Cardon, Clint Hunt and Paul Beck. On the south approach ap-proach area, committee members mem-bers are William R. Thorley, Clemont Neilson, Fred La-Frentz La-Frentz and John L. Condie. . The committee is charged I with contacting all property j owners and attempting to ob-; ob-; tain committments to participate partici-pate in the project. In ohcr action of the city council the mayor reported that final proofs had been submitted to the State Engineer En-gineer regarding three sources of culinary water. They include in-clude the Middleton Springs in Shurtz Canyon, the acquired acquir-ed water rights transferred from the Srruth family in the valley and the newly acquired acquir-ed water rights on the new city well near the Cedar City cemetery. Call for Bids The City Council also auth- . orized two calls for bids. The first is a call lor pipe for the proposed Main Street renovation renova-tion project. The call Is for purchase of pipe only on a linear foot basis and does not include Installation. The Mayor indicated that It wns i'.Tipopsible to draw u specifications for the Install-. Install-. atlon owing to the number of unknowns in the project and the council has decided that installation will be made by the water department. Bids are to be opened at the coun- , cil meeting slated this evening, even-ing, Thursday, Jan. 2. I The Council further acknowledged acknow-ledged gifts to the city in be-nalf be-nalf of College of Southern Utah and the California-Pacific Utilities Co. The college has donated to the city light poles formerly installed at the CSU football field for use at the Cedar City municipal baseball park. With the the receipt of the poles California-Pacific Utilities Utili-ties Co. has, without charge installed the poles at the park. Light Installation The council authorized a call for bids for materials to complete the installation of the lighting system again acknowledging the cooperation coopera-tion of the power company in their offer to complete the installation in-stallation once the materials are obained. Bids on the materials will be opened at the meeting of the council on Thursday, Jan. 23. When completed the instal-latio instal-latio will represent an actual cost value of nearly $30,00 the Mayor pointed out, with an actual cash outlay of less than $4,000, owing to the generosity gen-erosity of CSU and California-j California-j Pacific. |
