Show Council Tackles Pressing Problems Two reappointments were made at the regular meeting of the Cedar City council held Thursday evening, Sept 3. The appointment of Dr. L. V. Broadbent and Ralph Piatt to three year terms on the Cedar City Water board was approved. Both are reappointments to the board. A minimum power use agreement agree-ment with the California-Pacific Utilities Company was also signed sign-ed after approval of the council, according to Mayor Anderson. Under this agreement the City committed a minimum guarantee guaran-tee of $2500 electric use, on a five year basis, from the well Installation In-stallation at Qultchipah. In lieu of this minimum agreement the Power company makes the power Installation at the well, including includ-ing puting In the lines to the well. . City also Instigated at the meeting an application for cooperative co-operative funds for a two-year improvement program at the Cedar Ce-dar City Municipal Airport Application Ap-plication was made to the Civil funds that are set up on a Aeronautic Administration for cooperative basis of 62 percent by the federal government, 18 percent by the state and 18 percent per-cent by the city. Under the application the first year program would include tearing up and remulchlng of the north-south taxi strip from the East-West runway to the south end of the field. It would also include oil remulchlng In front of the hangers and around the administration building. Second phase of the application to be accomplished in 1961, If approv-ed, approv-ed, would Include extension of the present north-south runway an additional 1100 feet That would bring the total runway length to a mlxlmum of 6600 feet Following a series of requests the City Council authorized the Installation of a sidewalk between be-tween 800 and 700 West Street at 300 South. The need for the sidewalk as an access to students atending the South Elementary School became evident with the opening of school. Two ordinances were reviewed by the Council at the meeting and passed on to the planning commission for further recommendations recom-mendations before acceptance. First was an off-street parking park-ing ordinance whose purpose it wil be to eliminate deficiencies and Inconsistances in the present ordinance of the city. Second ordinance to be viewed by the planning commission for recommendations concerns sidewalks, side-walks, curbs and gutters. Also featured In this ordinance Is a safety feature regarding fencing. The Ordinance will disallow fences of over three feet tall to the front of property lines. The three feet maximum would extend ex-tend 25 feet Into the property. Purpose of this ts to ellminatte blind spots on drivesways adjacent adja-cent to front sidewalks. |
