Show Minersvillers Vin M-Men Tourney I Minersville M-Men basektball team walked off with top honors and earned the right to enter the All-Church tournament In Provo, "" 1 jat Saturday twenlng.-when It downed the Cedar Sixth Ward in a 59 to 53 battle In division play at Kanab. I Minersville completed a four-1 night stand and defended sue- j cessfully the division title by virtue vir-tue of the victory. In addition Minersville placed three men on the tournament honor rolls and the Cedar crew placed two men on the tourney team; Selected to the a).' tournament team were Rex Erickson of Cedar Sitfh; Heyward Marshall, of Minersville; Min-ersville; Sherrell Niejson. Henderson, Hen-derson, Nev.; Kenneth Christen-sen, Christen-sen, St. George, and Boyd Adams. Kanab. Honorable mention honors were won by Gordon Bauer of Cedar City; Wayne GiUins and Garth Fisher of Minersville; Jim Harris, Henderson, Nev., and Jay Ramsay of Fredonia. The coveted spors'tmanshlp trophy tro-phy was awarded to the Fredonia team, second place entrant from the Kanab Stake. Finishing in third place behind be-hind Minersville and Cedar City I was Henderson who captured the place with a final night 62 to 60 wia over Kanab. The consolation championship was won by St George, which downed Fredonia, 62 to 42 for the honor. j In the championship game be-' tween MinersvUle and Cedar City I jthe lads from the north took an! early lead and held it throughout the game. At one time, early in the third quarter, after compiling a 10 point lead in the first half, the Minersville crew expanded the point spread to 14 points. In the final period the Sixth Warders of Cedar City put oh a scoring spree of their own to begin be-gin a comeback that was stopped at a five point spread. Gordon Bauer led the scoring with Erickson Erick-son contributing an excellent game in the rebound department. |
