Show Awards Assembly Honors Active Students The annual awards assembly at the Cedar City High School Filday proved to be a highlight of the school year for a large number of senior students who received awards and scholarships for their scholastic attainments and extra curricular activities during their three years at the school. Winnie Heywood and Helen Harris, active debators at the school this year, received the coveted co-veted Durham Morris Debate Award, presented annually to the two outstanding debators of the year. Three young ladies received scholarships to enable them to begin training for the nursing profession. Two of these were presented by the American Le gion Auxiliary, with Sylvia Smith and Marlene Hanzon the recipients. recip-ients. The third, which went to Carol Ann Parry, was presented by the Ladies of Elks. The Elks Club scholarships for outstanding scholastic attainment attain-ment and leadership were presented pre-sented to Helen Harris and Janet Wasden. Get U of U Scholarships Three students, Helen Harris, Ronald Stapley and Marlene Hanzon, received scholarships to the University of Utah. A Salt Lake Area Vocational School scholarship went to ShaVon Lee Nelfon, and a Utah Congress of Patents and Teachers scholarship to Dorothy Prince. Three College of Southern Utah activity scholarships were presented pre-sented with Winnie Heywood receiving re-ceiving the scholarship for schol-actic schol-actic attainment, Laurena Jones, one for music and Dennis Huntsman Hunts-man in agriculture. Ann Larson! was named as alternate for the music scholarship. Kenneth Benson, outstanding football and weight star at the high school, received an athletic scholarship to College of Southern South-ern Utah, presented by Thorlcy Motor Co. Earn Activity Awards Thirty students received activity activi-ty awards for their participation participa-tion in extra curricular activities activi-ties throughout their attendance at the school. Points are given for each activity, with those accumulating accum-ulating a designated number of points receiving the awards.
