Show Nevf Modern J. C. Penney Company Store Opens Doors Wide for Business Today, Thursday, the new ultra-modern store of J. C. Penney Company will open Its doors for business and a cordial Invitation to citizens of the area to visit the new establishment has been extended ex-tended by G. II. Campbell, manager. man-ager. The largest, most up-to-date and completely modern store In southern Utah will feature department de-partment sales, with a new cash register system installed. It will include five sales counters distributed dis-tributed throughout the store, and covering the various departments. depart-ments. According to Mr. Campbell, practically every department will be enlarged from that of the old Penney store they have just noved from. The infants' department depart-ment will be greatly enlarged as will the home furnishing section. The boys department will be separate from the men's and the-young the-young lasses will have a "Girls' shop" distinct from the women's wo-men's department of the store. Opening Bargains Featured Doors will open at 10 a. m. in the completely air conditioned building. A host of special grand opening bargains will greet patrons pa-trons Thursday. The Penney Company store has been located In Cedar City since 1923 and the company has expanded ex-panded its facilities consistently since that time. Originally located lo-cated at 100 North Main the business busi-ness moved to larger quarters In the late 1920's. From-that location loca-tion they are stepping into the new building and location to make it the largest department store in the area. According to Mr. Campbell, the store Is three times larger than the old establishment, comprising compris-ing approximately 7,000 square feet of selling area. Von Wayman, formerly of Price, Utah, where he started his career with J. C. Penney, Is assistant as-sistant manager of the ultra-' modern store, and he has played an Important part in moving and management of the store. He moved from a department head at Price to assistant manager here In Cedar City to assume here In Cedar City in October of last year. He will continue In that capacity at the new store, Mr. Campbell said. |
