Show Mayor Proclaims April as Cancer Control Month A proclamation designating April as Cancer Control Month and urging generous public support sup-port for the American Cancer Society's 1955 educational and fund-raising crusade, was Issued today by Mayor Arnold Anderson. Ander-son. The campaign will open In Iron County tomorrow, April 1, under the auspices of the local ACS unit. ; The text of the Maylor's proc- i lamation follows: 1 "It has been brought to my at tention that cancer killed three persons In Iron County last year, while throughout the United States more than 230,000 persons died .of that disease. And It is estimated that one out of every three of those victims died unnecessarily un-necessarily because proper treatment treat-ment was not undertaken in time. "Clearly the American Cancer Society is financing vital scientific scien-tific research to improve present methods of combatting cancer , and also is constantly provid ing humanitarian services to con-cer con-cer patients. "And because the three-front attack waged by the Cancer Society So-ciety against cancer depends on voluntary contributions obtained during its annual fund-raising crusade, I, Arnold Anderson, Mayor of the City of Cedar City, do hereby proclaim that the residents resi-dents of this city shall commemorate commem-orate April as: CANCER CONTROL MONTH "Further, I earnestly urge generous gen-erous financial support for the fund-raising crusade being conducted con-ducted by the A C S to the end that its program may give the most effective and immediate aid against cancer, and stimulate the research necessary to achieve the eventual goal of adding cancer to the imposing list of formerly deadly diseases conquered by medical science." |
