Show John A. flhlstrom Killed In Auto Accident John Alonzo Ahlstrom, G9, native na-tive of Cedar City and former member of the Cedar City police department, was killed in an automobile au-tomobile accident in California early Sunday morning. Mr. Ahlstrom, Ahl-strom, who with his wife, had been living in Tucson, Ariz, for several weeks was returning to Cedar City alone when the accident acci-dent occurred. Mr. Ahlstrom had let Tucson early Saturday morning and clashed his car Into a steel post at the Daggett, Calif., highway checking station, near Barstow. He had apparently turned his car Into the checking station preparatory to stopping, but for some unexplained reason the car crashed Into the fourth steel post that supports the roof of the station. sta-tion. There was no indication as to what caused the accident, Mr. Ahlstrom having turned into the' station but failing to reduce his .-speed and apparently losing control con-trol of his car as he drove between be-tween the supporting columns. It Is felt by his family that since lie had driven for long hours, much longer than he had in- tended, that he was apparently very tired and unable to handle the car properly. It was first thought that he may have suffered a heart attack at-tack before the crash, but investigation inves-tigation Indicated that this was :tioI the case. M. and Mrs. Ahlstrom had been visiting in Tucson with Mrs. Chafes Ronnow who was ill, vind Mrs. Ahlstrom remained in the Arizona city with her sister as her husband left to return to CedaT City. Mr. Ahlstrom was born In Ce-tdar Ce-tdar City on Aug. 19, 1885, a son of Charles and Hannah Pitts Ahlstrom, and had spent most of his life here. He married Miner-va Miner-va Nlelson on Jan. 23, 1908, and the ceremony was later solemnized solemn-ized In the St. George temple. She died In December, 1912, and In May, 1949 Mr. Ahlstrom mar-ripfl mar-ripfl Agnes Cower. He was superintendent of Tarms for the Branch Agricultural Agricultur-al College for more than 15 years and later served on the Cedar City police force for a number of years. He -is 'survived by his widow, Cedar City; six sons and daugh- ters, Mrs. Grace Ence, Mrs. Vera Leigh, Charles M. and June Ahlstrom, Ahl-strom, all of Cedar City; Mrs. Leah Pundt, San Diego, Calif., and Kay Ahlstrom, Salt Lake City. Also surviving are two sisters, sis-ters, Mrs. Kate Gardner and Mrs. Caroline Jordan, Cedar City, and a brother, Byron Ahlstrom, Re-dondo Re-dondo Beach, Calif. |
