Show NEWCASTLE NEWS NOTES Tioneer Day was celebrated here in a fitting way under the direction of the MIA recreation committee. In the forenoon an outdoor meeting and program was enjoyed by the community on the Thomas Forsyth lawn, after which games and stunts were participated in by both old and young. In the afternoon attended the rodeo at Enterprise. Douglas Forsyth and his mother, moth-er, Mrs. J. T. Forsyth of Los Angeles, An-geles, Calif., spent several days during the past week visiting with relatives and friends here. Mrs. David Sterling of Leeds is visiting with her daughters, Mrs. Leo Knell and Mrs. Katherine Christensen, and their families here. Descendants of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Piatt, old-time residents resi-dents of Pinto, held a family reunion re-union on July 26 and 27 in the Pine Valley canyon. Many members mem-bers of the family from as far north as Canada and south and west as California, were in attendance. at-tendance. A freak hail, rain and windstorm wind-storm hit this section Monday beating down garden and field crops, overturning small buildings, build-ings, breaking windows and j breaking limbs from trees, mak ing it dangerous for anyone to venture outside. Considerable damake was done to alfalfa crops that had been cut. |
