Show j Red Cross Blood Quota Set at 200 Pints An ever increasing need for whole blood in the ranks of the Armed Forces as well as for private pri-vate use here in the United States has prompted the Blood-mobile Blood-mobile of the Utah Red Cross to tour the state again in an effort to help relieve the critical situation. situa-tion. According to Whitney Jensen, state blood procurement chairman, chair-man, the Bloodmobile will be in Cedar City on Wednesday, July 8 between the hours of 2 and 8 p. m. The mobile unit will be set up at the high school gymnasium gymnas-ium and a 200-pint quota has been set for the six hour Cedar City visit. In order that this quota can be met, a steady flow of blood donors must be maintained for the full six hours, Mr. Jensen stated, and in order to accomplish accom-plish this, appointments must be made in advance. Red Cross workers will spend several days in advance touring the city and arranging appointments appoint-ments for this purpose, but the committee in charge urges those who are not contacted by the workers to call the Chamber of Commerce office, phone 1179, and register. An urgent plea for Cedar Ce-dar City residents is made at the time by the Red Cross. In the past the Iron County visits have been very beneficial in the sustenance of human life. Twice whole blood of Cedar City citizen's has been flown directly to Korea where it has probably saved the lives of several fighting fight-ing men. This urgent need f"r blood should be an incentive to the citizenry to do their part in spending five minutes to give a pint of blood. All of the blood Is not used fof Armed Forces purposes. That need is of course the most urgent ur-gent but a share of the blood is processed and returned to. the state Red Cross where it is stored and in turn released to needy persons in the state or set to disaster di-saster stricken areas in the US. Still another portion of the blood Is returned to the Iron County hospital where it is used for local lo-cal emergencie and for local pur-' poses. |
