Harris, President of the USAC, ninety-four Branch Agricul- tural College graduates parade across campus cam-pus for opening of Commencement Exercises Exer-cises Friday morning. it i ft Si Address to Branch College Graduates Stresses Three Point Proaram Graduates of the Branch Agricultural Agri-cultural college were told to seek ' objectives that are larger than selfish personal aims, when Dr. Carlton Culmsee, Dean of the school of Arts and Sciences of the USAC, addressed them at commencement com-mencement exercises Friday morning "Such objectives", he said,, "will give you courage to over-come over-come handicaps, supply you with energy and give you Incentive to gain higher goals". He named three objectives for which they should strive, first to build a home of courage, cooperation and love; second to protect democratic dem-ocratic freedom, and third, to build a better world and future for mankind. Wendell Brooksby, co-valedictorian, urged his fellow students to give more thought to "duty" than to "privilege", and maintained main-tained that if everyone followed this practice troubles that face the world today would soon vanish. van-ish. Wlllard Lee, who shared the valedictory honors with Brooksby, maintained that education edu-cation is the greatest gift young people can receive, and urged the graduates to continue their efforts towards higher education and greater goals. At the opening of the exercises ninety-four graduates in cap and gown, marched from the LDS Institute In-stitute across the campus to the college auditorium where they heard the advice of Dr. Culmsee and received their diplomas from Dr. Franklin S. Harris, president of the Utah State Agricultural college. Music was furnished by the college orchestra under the direction di-rection of Prof. Roy L. Halver-sen, Halver-sen, and the mixed chorus under the direction of Prof. William H. Manning. |
