Show Iron County Republicans to Cast Votes For Four Offices in Coming Primary Election Republicans of Iron county will be faced with the task of selecting select-ing candidates for only four' oflices when the primary elec-1 tion is held late this summer. I Only one candidate has filed for each of the other offices to be filled at this year's election. ! eliminating the need for a primary pri-mary vote. The four offices to be voted on at the Primary election will be State Representative, county sheriff, short term county com- , missioner and county assessor end surveyor. Candidates for three of these were decided at the Republican County Convention held in Parowan Par-owan Saturday night. Named for the party's candidates candi-dates for representative were He-her He-her Sevy, Cedar City livestock man, and E. Ray Lyman, incumbent incum-bent of Parowan. Mr. Lyman, also a livestock man, is also mayor of Parowan. H. Marvin Jones, who had also filed for the l.osition was eliminated in the convention Saturday. Four men had filed for the position po-sition of sheriff, including Arthur Ar-thur Nelson, incumbent. William Hills, Preston Wood and Claude Smith, all of Cedar City. Named to the primary ballot were Mr. Nelson and Mr. Hills. In addition to serving as sheriff, Mr. Nelson is former Cedar City police chief. Mr. Hills is a member of the Cedar police force at the present time. Jess Guymon of Parowan and Dee G. Cowan of Cedar City were placed on the Primary ballot for short-term commissioner, after the delegates had balloted on (our men, including the two win ners,, and David Matheson and 'Arthur Joseph, both of Parowan. Cowan operates the Cowan Gift and Appliance store in Cedar Cedar City, and Mr. Guymon is a livestock man. The other contest in the Primary Pri-mary will be between Hillman Da Hey and Ralph B. Piatt, candidates can-didates for county assessor and surveyor. Mr. Piatt holds the position po-sition and Mr. Dalley formerly held the position for many years. |
