Show ! Fourth Annual Art Exhibit Big Success The Fourth Annual Cedar City Art Exhibit which closed Sunday was very successful, It has been announced an-nounced by I. N. Wright, chairman of the Civic Arts Committee of the Community Coordinating Council, 'who sponsored the exhibit. Hun-duds Hun-duds of art patrons visited the ex-nloit ex-nloit and were enthusiastic n their praise of the paintings on display. The programs featuring the related re-lated arts of music and dance, together to-gether with discussions and lectures on the paintings exhibited and art In general, which were given each Sunday afternoon were very well attended and did much to add to the success of the venture. ! The San Diego Art Oulld of San Diego, California exhibited an unusually un-usually fine collection of paintings, and numerous local collections were also on display, Including paintings owned by Mr. and Mrs. Max Blaes, th Branch Agricultural College and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Cane. Alfred R. Mitchell's oil painting, Morning Light", included In the San Diego Art Guild collection, was voted, the most popular picture In the exhibit. This painting was pur. chased by the Cedar City Junior High School. Nine other painting vite pur-ctiosed pur-ctiosed locally, Mr. Wright announced. announc-ed. These Include: Elsie S. Klmberley's water color "Delphiniums", purchased by Mlm Coirle Leigh; Frederics; Johnsons water color "Landscape," purchased b Mr. pnd Mrs. Theron Asheroft; Rcse Schnider's oil paLitlng "On the Waterfront," purchased by Mis. Zoe Palmer; Rose Schnider's oil pointing "At Wind and Sea," purchased by Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Farnsworth; Edith E. Perrine's water wat-er color, "Spring Wind," purchased by Mr. and Mrs. W. L, 'Jones; H. Salisbury's water color "Old Wood," purchased by the Branch Agricultural Agricul-tural College; Charles A. Fries' water color "Desert Mountains Near Indian Wells," purchased by the Cedar City high school; Michael Cannon's water color "The Bridge," and Maurice Braun's oil painting Harbor Scene," both purchased by the Iron County School Board. Members of the committee who worked with Mr. Wright Included Mrs. D. C. Dix, Hazen Cooley, Miss Mnry L. Bastow, O. O. Larson, Burns Fjr.llnson, Miss Elsie Hansen, Mrs. Virginia Larson, Mrs. Leatha Prestwlch, A. W. Stevenson, John Pendleton, Clarence Anderson and Donald Nelson. Members of the Fine Arts Guild of Cedar City were In charge of the guide service at th exhibit. |
