Show Local High School Presents Painting To School Board Charles A. Fries' oil painting ' Desert Mountains Near Indian Wells" was purchased by the Cedar City High School and presentel this week to the Iron County School Bojrd. The painting now hangs in the Board room of the Cedar City schools. The painting was one Included in the San Diego Art Guild collection which was shown at the local art exhibit, and won high praise from potions who visited the exhibit, diaries A. Fries, the artist, was bora in Hillsboro, Ohio in 1854, moving to San Diego, California In i8' 7 to moke his home. Prior to his -lcath in 1940, Mr. Fries had become be-come famous for his paintings of the California desert, his "Desert Mountains Near Indian Wells" being I representative of his work. The Iron County School Board also added Michael Cannon's water color, 'The Bridge," to Its art collodion, col-lodion, purchasing the paintln;; from the local exhibit. "The Bridge" was one of four paintings exhibited by Kir. Cannon, who is one of Utah's most, promising young artists. |
