Show Hranch College To Open September 21 The Branch Agricultural College Col-lege opens its doors on the forty-third forty-third year of its service to the youth of southern Utah and Nevada. Nev-ada. Registration will be held on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 21, and 22, and Instruction will begin on Wednesday the 23rd. Tlie Branch Agricultural College, due to the demands of the war, begins a year of Increased activity. The College has been designated as one of the Institutions of the state where Officer Training Courses for Army and Navy will be given. Many of the Freshmen of last year together to-gether with men who have been out of school for some time are returning re-turning to qualify themselves as officers in the armed forces. The interest In the Navy's V-l program is running high. During the past six weeks fifteen College men from California have been doing their ground work and solo flying preparatory pre-paratory to continuing In the Na val Air Corps. As soon a these men complete their work, another detachment of men will arrive. With improvements of over a quarter million dollars made on the Cedar City Air Field, added interest in-terest being shown in the Civilian Civ-ilian Pilot Training course which Is ojien to all males who can pass the physical and mental tests. Already Al-ready the College has trained some 90 men in this course. Since the Defense Industries have made such heavy demands for people trained io Airplane Mechanics, Me-chanics, Auto Mechanics, Building Trades and the various divisions of business, the Branch College is emphasizing the work In Terminal Education In these fields. A student stu-dent may now spend practically the entire day in either of these fields and thereby speed up his training. Reports from the Freshman class of last year and from the High School graduates Indicate that the Branch College should enjoy a banner year. The students stu-dents in the Naval Air Corps course have been housed in the hotels of the city in order to make room in the Dormitories for the regular college students. |
