Show Telephone Company Plans Extensive Improvements To Cedar City Exchange With materials becoming available avail-able the Mountain States Telephone Tele-phone company is undertaking extensive ex-tensive improvements as a means if Improving service to the people of Iron county. Included In the program pro-gram Is the installation of new switchboards in the Cedar City system, Installation of buried cable here and the addition of new lines to Summit and Kanarra. During the war years very few clvtlan telephones were manufactured, manufac-tured, and a large number of applications ap-plications for service were held pending an increase in supplies. A total of 300 telephones have been placed In service In Cedar City since December of last year. Surplus Army Field wire Is being placed as a temporary tem-porary expedient for providing service ser-vice In locations where the capacity capac-ity of existing facilities has been reached. One additional local operators' iwltchboard position was placed In service during the- year. Western West-ern Electric engineers are Installing two more positions at the local office. of-fice. These positions which make a total of nine In the Cedar City exchange, are to be placed In service ser-vice on January 2. A construction crew, now In Cedar City, will add additional lines to summit and Kanarra. Most of the material necessary for placing a burled cable from Main .street West to Ninth West Is now on hand. As soon as this Is completed additional lines will be available and all poles on First North Street West of Main to Ninth West will be removed. Telephone company officials re-lort re-lort that since December of last year toll calls to and from Cedar :tty have Increased 20 percent, and n order to handle such service ln-sreases ln-sreases one additional line to Bca- er and one to Zlon National Park have been placed In service. Plans ire complete to provide three ad-lltional ad-lltional lines to Salt Lake City and three to St. George. As soon as equipment is available, an addition-ll addition-ll line will be placed to Enterprise nd an Automatic system Installed n that community. Since the Installation of an automatic auto-matic system In Parowan the demand de-mand for service has increased over '00 per cent. At the present time a number of applications for service re being held because of the lack of facilities. Plans are being completed com-pleted for the installation of ad-litional ad-litional switching equipment and nitsldc lines. The Telephpone company officials offi-cials state that they are using .very means possible to provide the ype of serv'ce desired on a "when waned" basis wherever telephone service Is requested. |
